Water Heater Solutions & Supply

1. What is the difference between a tank water heater & a tankless (instantaneous) water heater?
Tank water heaters store heated water until you are ready to use hot water. Most consumers use hot water 1 hour or less a day and pay for 24 hours of stored hot water. Tankless water heaters make hot water on demand, and shuts off when no water flow is demanded.

2. Do tankless water heaters come in electric and gas?
Yes! Call and ask about the new electric tankless water heaters!

3. Are there rebates available? Cash or tax credits?
Rebates are available for solar water heaters, as well as gas tankless, and some standard tank water heaters.

4. What are the savings with a tankless compared to a tank water heater?

Tankless water heaters are up to 70% more efficient than a tank water heater due to the storage of hot water and the constant heating it requires in a standard water heater

5. How much does it cost to run a water heater?
This varies from electric to gas and from tank to tankless. Normally a tank water heater (electric) cost about $600.00 annually to operate while a solar water heater might cost up to $100.00 each year.

Break down of prices annually:
• Gas water heater (tank) $ 450.00
• Electric water heater (tank) $600.00 - $ 700.00
• Gas water heater (tankless) $ 250.00 - $350.00
• Electric water heater (tankless) $400.00 - $600.00
• Solar water heater $100.00 - $200.00 annually

• Prices are a typical family of 4 with normal use of water, i.e.: using the dishwater, washer machine, and limiting showers to 5-10 minutes each person.

6. Can you install a tankless water heater outside?
Gas heaters you can install outside, electric tankless heaters you cannot per manufacturer and building codes.

7. What are the sizes of a tank water heater?
Tank water heaters come in three sizes; “low boy”, “medium”, or “tall”. The gallons range from 30 – 100 in all types.

8. Is there maintenance on a tankless water heater?
It depends. If your water heater is gas, then YES! You should flush your water heater annually.

9. Can you use a tankless water heater without electric?
No, a tankless water heater has an electronic ignition system, which means the pilot only lights when hot water is demanded(turning the hot water on), and when water is not used the pilot goes out (saving you money) so it’s not constantly burning when not in use.

10. Do you have to have a permit to exchange my old tank water heater for a tankless?
Yes! You need a permit to do any home improvements –including a water heater change out, regardless if it’s tankless or not. For do it yourself customers; we suggest you contact your local municipality and inquire about the specific guidelines. If we are your installer we handle all of these requirements!
